Hollyhock flower gardens
Hollyhocks One of the world's most beautiful long stem flowers. It takes two years to bloom but is beautiful even when it hasn't. It is a perennial which means it comes back every year. It grows as a weed in England in the forests. It loves water so does great where you have drainage. Usually bought as a root but they don't take well to transplanting. I really don't know why they are sold as roots. It's almost like throwing your money away. The seeds grow so well, that without care they will spread but never get out of hand. If you want them in rows, plant seeds 3 inches apart. Thin when they are 6 inches tall. Plant rows 12 inches apart putting seeds 1/2 inch deep. You can try to transplant the roots from the thinning process, some will take. Plant rows 12 inches apart. Keep the seeds and or roots moist as with new a lawn. They come in many colors. Reds, Burgandy, Pink, Yellow, Bi-colors, White, Black, and Double blooms. The Lost River Trading Post in Oregon is the only place I know that harvests the seeds and sells them in volume. $2.00 for 4 oz by volume Not by weight. They Grow to six feet tall, although there are short varieties. Have a Beautiful Garden! |
